\n\tPfaffhausen, Switzerland, 29.2.2008:<\/strong> As the 29th February only occurs once every four years, then I don’t want to miss this chance to make a further blog entry on this day. I would like to review the last four weeks of development work that we have invested in the ArchivistaBox.<\/em><\/p>\n \tThe stated goal of the ArchivistaBox project is that we release two major updates a year, one in the spring and (who is surprised) one in the autumn. The next release, the ArchivistaBox 2008\/III, is in the final phase of development, which means that the release can already be accessed at sourceforge.net.<\/a>\n<\/p>\n \n\tThe most important new developments included in the ArchivistaBox 2008\/III are:\n<\/p>\n \n\tWhen we began developing the ArchivistaBox more than four years ago, scanning in the Linux environment was not a happy story. The supported devices could almost be counted on a single hand. Originally therefore, scanner integration was not planned for the ArchivistaBox.\n<\/p>\n \n\tAs we at Archivista GmbH had for a long time worked with AVision scanners in Windows, and as we found a partner in ExactCode<\/a> that had for a number of years maintained the AVision drivers for Linux, we decided in 2005 to at least include a few AVision devices in the ArchivistaBox concept. Already in the first year of the ArchivistaBox’s existence we were surprised that many of our existing customers showed an interest in the scanner integration. Just as sought after was the integration of FTP capable digital copiers. Since 2006, all devices that can place a PDF and\/or TIFF multipage file in a certain directory on an FTP server have been able to be supported.\n<\/p>\n \n\tIn 2007 we finally invested in the integration of the Fujitsu scanners. And as we didn’t just want to support the Fujitsu scanners in any old way, we developed the drivers for our needs in such a way that the ultrasonic double feed control and also the JPEG compression also worked. Of course the relevant sponsored developments have all been added to the Sane project in their entirety.\n<\/p>\n \n\tToday, in 2008, we are again taking an important step forward. With the 2008\/III release we now support not just digital copiers and above mentioned scanners, but also all Brother and Hewlett Packard (HP) multifunctional devices. In contrast to previous devices, the newly supported devices are extremely competitively priced. For example, the Brother MFC 260C doesn’t cost more than 130 euros. The device also has a feed for approx. 10 to 15 pages and scans (albeit not in permanent operation) 12 pages per minute (300dpi black and white with activated optimisation).\n<\/p>\n \n\tAnd if you would now like to know if your scanner is really supported, we would like to publish a list of the available devices here. Please note that the list originates primarily from the manufacturers of the relevant scanners.
