When archiving, all data is transferred to an ISO-9660 compatible file format that is readable without a database. Data created in this way is granted 30 years of data integrity. This is under the condition that the data will still be readable after several decades.
If the data is backed up exclusively on hard disks, the data must be transferred to new hard disks approximately every five years. Transferring the data to non-rewritable media ensures that the data can be stored unchanged for several decades.
Since 2020, in addition to the two formats CDR (0.7 GByte) and DVD (4.2 GByte), M-Disk (Archival-Disk) with a native 100 GByte (usable 93 GByte) is also available on every ArchivistaBox.
Many customers may therefore want to migrate old ISO files (DVDs) to M-Disk, as one M-Disk contains around 20 DVDs or 120 CDRs. The old ISO files or CDR/DVDs can be read once and several ISO files can be copied to an M-Disk.
For this reason there is a GUI on the ArchivistaBox desktop for burning the ISO files. The program can be started via the start menu and 'xfburn':
.
There you can select an ISO file via 'burn image', which was created automatically during archiving. All ISO files are located under:
/var/lib/vz/template/iso
This path must be entered in the file dialog in the burning program.
To do this, select 'None' for 'Image to burn'.
Then you have to change to the path '/var/lib/vz/template/iso'. If there are ISO files, you will find them under dbname_orderstart.iso
. These ISO files have to be selected and then the process can be done via 'Burn image'.
It is recommended to always make at least two copies and to store them at different locations if possible.
